Alan Winton
Alan Peter Winton (born 4 September 1958)〔(Who's Who 2012 – THETFORD, Bishop Suffragan of )〕 is the Bishop of Thetford in the Church of England.〔(Thetford and Brandon Times )〕〔Daily Telegraph “Appointments in the clergy” p32 Issue no 47,931 (dated Friday 9 July 2009)〕
Educated at Sheffield University, and gaining his PhD from that university in 1987, Winton trained for ministry at Lincoln Theological College and was ordained a deacon in 1991.〔 His first post was as a Curate in Southgate, in the Diocese of London.〔(Norwich Cathedral website )〕〔Crockford's Clerical Directory 2008/2009 Lambeth, Church House Publishing ISBN 978-0-7151-1030-0〕 Later he was Priest in charge of St Paul's Walden, then CME Officer for the St Albans Diocese. Finally (before his elevation to the Episcopate) he was Rector of Welwyn;〔(St Albans Anglican )〕 during the latter part of that appointment, from 2007 til 2009, he was also an honorary canon of St Albans Abbey.〔
Winton is married with two children.〔
